Bienvenue! Full casting has been announced for the Josie Rourke-helmed Les Liaisons Dangereuses, starring Tony winners Janet McTeer and Liev Schreiber. Raffi Barsoumian (Privacy) and Ora Jones (Matilda) will join the cast as Le Chevalier Danceny and Madame de Volanges, respectively. Performances of the play, which is based on the 1782 novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos and has been adapted by Oscar winner Christopher Hampton, will begin on October 8 at the Booth Theatre.
Also joining the cast are Katrina Cunningham (Paramour) as Émilie, Josh Salt (The Cripple of Inishman) as Azolan and Joy Franz (Into the Woods) as Victoire. David Patterson and Laura Sudduth will make their Broadway debuts in the production as Major-domo and Julie, respectively. As previously reported, the cast will also feature Elena Kampouris as Cécile Volanges, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen as Madame de Tourvel and Mary Beth Peil as Madame de Rosemonde.
The dark comedy follows lovers-turned-rivals La Marquise de Merteuil (McTeer) and Le Vicomte de Valmont (Schreiber) as they challenge each other to games of reputation-ruining seduction. Among their targets is the young convent girl Cécile (Kampouris), whose love for her music teacher is exploited to thwart her engagement.
